One of the first questions on any demolition job is how many skip bins you will need. There is no single answer — it depends on the size of the structure, the materials, and how the job is staged — but you can estimate it sensibly. Here is how we approach it for small-to-medium demolition and strip-out work around Newcastle and Lake Macquarie.
It is about weight, not just volume
Demolition waste is dense. Brick, concrete, tile and soil fill a bin by weight long before they fill it by volume, so a bin that looks half full can already be at its limit. A rough starting point
As a guide only, a small bathroom or kitchen strip-out might need a single 4m³–6m³ bin; a full internal strip-out of a house often runs to several 6m³–10m³ bins; and a full house demolition is usually a series of 10m³ bins exchanged in stages rather than one enormous bin. Mixed materials, multiple trades and separated recycling all change the count.

Rather than one huge bin sitting full on site, most demolition jobs run more smoothly with scheduled changeovers — a full bin is swapped for an empty one as each stage progresses. It keeps the site clear, keeps your crew moving, and lets you separate clean concrete from mixed waste to cut disposal costs.
